Call for Work: Long Exposure



Desotorow Gallery is seeking submissions of photographic works for a juried exhibit scheduled for February 13-18. The exhibit, “The Extended Moment,” will be juried and curated by a Guest Curator, Craig Stevens. Work submitted to this exhibit should explore the idea of the extended moment- a longer exposure, multiple exposure, or a sequential imagery theme.

Craig Stevens is currently a photography professor at Savannah College of Art and Design, and he has also taught at the Maine Photographic Workshop for 29 years. He has written numerous articles about photographic craft and vision and is a respected workshop leader and teacher. Linhof Young Photographer Award Competition


LINHOF YOUNG PHOTOGRAPHER AWARD 09
"Human Cityscapes"

Linhof is the oldest existing camera manufacturer in the world with a tradition of more than 120 years in developing and manufacturing view cameras and optical equipment for applied photography. Linhof is market leader for professional large format camera systems. The company has been actively engaged in supporting the projects of younger people for many decades and now Linhof again is inviting entries for their bi-annual competition for the best images of younger photographers preferably taken with large format cameras systems.

In view of the worldwide distribution of Linhof cameras we anticipate a high volume of entries for this prestigious award. The topic of the subject matter is the urban environment. The theme of the competition is "Human Cityscapes". The photographic realisation should comprise the urban environment "City" showing contrasts or unity of citizens and architecture. The role of the human being within the urban architecture is the idea. Linhof expects a conceptional work relating to the theme with probably new personal reflections.
The Linhof Award for Young Photography is based on the fine art aesthetic principles of large format photo graphy. The competition is issued worldwide by Linhof Präzisions-Systemtechnik GmbH / Munich.
The competition is open to all professional photographers and students of photo graphy. Maximum age is 35 years. Every participant may submit a minimum of 5 to a maximum of 8 entries all dealing with the theme of the contest. All works should have been taken since 2008.
Deadline for submissions is March 31, 2009 (date of the sending post office).

The prizes are as follows:
1st. Linhof Camera equipment to the value of 10000 Euro
2nd. Linhof Camera equipment to the value of 3000 Euro
3rd. Linhof Camera accessories to the value of 1000 Euro
The judging will take place in April 2009 by a select jury of experts in the photographic world to determine the 3 best entries.

Call for Submissions: Spring Arts Collective!

About the theme:
Reaching across boundaries, breaking rules, living on the edge,
dreaming the unknown,
envision all things possible. This exhibit will showcase diverse
perspectives portrayed by
photographer’s interpretation of the theme “Imagine”.

Eligibility:
This exhibition is open to all domestic and international,
professional and amateur,
photographers. Work derived from all photographic processes, both
traditional and digital,
are accepted, as well as mixed media work that is photo-based.

Exhibition and Awards:
Spring Arts Collective Gallery exhibits the work of contemporary
artists, both established and
emerging. Work will remain on exhibit for one month. Over 1200 people
attend SAC’s monthly
opening night event, held in conjunction with the LA Downtown Art
Walk on Gallery Row.
As a benefit of being selected for this exhibition, artists and their
work will be seen by an
audience of artists and collectors who appreciate photographic and
digital art forms.

• Selected images will be exhibited and available for sale at SAC
Gallery in Los Angeles, CA,
from March 12th - April 5th 2009.
• Selected images will also be prominently featured on the SAC
Gallery website and be
included in news releases to various local and web publications.
• A public reception for the artists will take place on Thursday,
March 12th 7-9pm to coincide
with the LA Downtown Art Walk on Gallery Row.
• First place winner will receive a one day workshop of Susan
Burnstine’s Visual Narratives
I or II or $100.00.
• Two honorable mentions will be awarded.

About the Juror:
Susan Burnstine is an award winning professional fine art and
commercial photographer based
in Los Angeles who builds homemade cameras and lenses primarily made
out of plastic,
vintage camera parts and random household objects. Susan is
represented in galleries across
the country, widely published throughout the world, and has written
for several photography
magazines, including Camera Arts and a monthly column for Black &
White Photography (UK).

Entry Fee:
Registration fee is $35US (six images).

If your work is accepted:
1. Send work framed and matted, ready for hanging. Max size of frame
is 28”
2. Include return postage or fed ex number for framed prints to be
shipped back to you
after the exhibition. Prints without postage cannot be returned.
Prints will be returned
in the container they were received.
3. When packing framed print, do NOT use Styrofoam peanuts.
4. The framed print MUST BE received by March 7th, 2009
